Chelsea S. Sisson, 88, of Brown County, passed away peacefully Saturday evening, Feb. 20, 2016, at his home.

Born Nov. 24, 1927, in Johnson County to the late Virgil and Nellie (Chitwood) Sisson, Chelsea attended school in Brown County. He married Rosemary Bay in Switz City on April 13, 1950. She preceded him in death June 9, 2001, after 51 devoted years of marriage.

He retired from Helmsburg Hardware after 35 years of service as an appliance technician and small engine mechanic. Chelsea was a member of the Brown County Antique Machinery Association and the Brown County Historical Society. A volunteer with Brown County 4-H Club, he was a strong supporter of Old Settlers Days in Brown County. Chelsea enjoyed storytelling, fishing and traveling to Kentucky to ride four-wheelers with family and friends.

He is survived by his loving children, Betty Marie (John) Whitehorn, David Allen (Terri) Sisson and Wilma Jean (Larry) Allender, all of Brown County; siblings, Marjorie Collett of Brunswick, Georgia, Mary Frownfelter of Buchanan, Tennessee, Helen Underwood of Martinsville, Marolyn Kirts of Columbus, Becky Scrougham, Lloyd and Lester Sisson, all of Brown County, Robert Sisson of Clifford and Thurl Sisson of Martinsville; grandchildren, Amanda (Robert) Chittum, Tracy (Thomas) Carter, Benjamin (Amanda) Sisson, Hannah (Travis) Dinsmore, Chelsea (Shannon) Whitehorn, Abigail Whitehorn, Anita Whitehorn, Steven (Mariah) Allender, Clifton Allender and Rose (James) Ashmore; 16 great-grandchildren; a great-great grandchild; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by siblings, Alvin and Harry Sisson, Catherine Sisson, Phyllis O’Quinn, Virginia Mathis, Carolyn Mathis and Emma Butler; an infant sister, Thelma Jean Sisson; and a great-grandson, Ethan Michael Allender.

The Revs. Lee Snider and Mary Jensen will conduct a funeral service at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 24, at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry St. in Morgantown.

Friends were to call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 23 at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Myers Cemetery, Brown County.
