Charles “C.W.” Folkening, 91½, of Nashville, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones, Friday, Feb. 12, 2016, in Bloomington.

He was born Aug. 19, 1924, in Indianapolis, to Walter and Rachael (Paugh) Folkening.

C.W. was a construction building site supervisor and carpenter by trade. A proud veteran of World War II, C.W. served with the 1305th Service Command Unit of the United States Army. He was a loving member of Duncan Community Church in Brown County and also a 4-H judge for over 30 years, covering all of southern Indiana.

As an avid pigeon fancier and judge, he belonged to many clubs in different states and was honored to be in the Hall of Fame of Birmingham Rollers Pigeons, a worldwide club. C.W. was a mentor who touched many young lives through his work with 4-H. He also enjoyed horses all of his life, riding and driving teams with a stagecoach or wagon. C.W. loved life as it came and was proud to be 91-and-a-half years old. He was a great friend to many and our world was truly blessed to have had him with us.

C.W. is survived by his loving companion, Andra Smith; niece, Sharon (Don) Props; nephew, Joe (Lisa) Folkening; great-niece, Julie Abernathey; two great-nephews, Ryan (Kay) Gerber and Hunter Folkening; and two great-great-nephews, Derek Abernathey and Gage Gerber.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 52 years, Daisy May (Plaster) Folkening; a sister, Mary Jane Wood; a brother, Edward Folkening; and his parents.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 17, at Bond-Mitchell Funeral Home, 1682 State Road 135 North, with military honors and interment to follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Greenwood.

The family was to receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 16, at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in memory of C.W. to Brown County 4-H, 802 Memorial Drive, Nashville, IN 47448; or Duncan Community Church, 517 W. Upper Schooner Road, Nashville, IN 47448.
