David Eugene Lee, 60, of Bloomington, left this world to be with his Lord after an extensive battle with cancer Thursday, Dec. 3, 2015.

David was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother. His dedication and devotion to his family were unparalleled. He met the love of his life at 14 in the rolling hills of Brown County where he was raised. They married June 13, 1973, and started on the road to building an amazing future. A hard worker his entire lifetime, Lee was a skilled mason for over 40 years and provided a wonderful life for his family. He was retired from B.A.C. Local No. 4 Indiana/Kentucky.

Ralph Waldo Emerson once said, “It is not length of life, but the depth of life.” David had much depth and passion for his life and for the people and things he loved. It was always a joy to be in his company and an even bigger joy to be a part of his life.

Survivors include his wife, Susan Crider Lee; daughters, Michelle Lee and Bethany Lee; son, William (Sara) Lee; son-in-law, Roger Simon; grandchildren, Jeremy Simon, Gabriel Lee, Mason Lee, Lauren Lee and Emilie Lee, all of Bloomington; siblings, Alma Wootton of Brown County, Cathie (Rick) Pearson and John R. “Rusty” Lee, both of Bloomington; sister-in-law, Julie (Bub) Waltman Lee of Brown County; aunts and uncle,  Sarah Mobley of Missouri, Becky (James) Montgomery and Calvin Sullivan of Mississippi; along with many loved extended family members, in-laws, nieces and nephews.

David was preceded in death by his parents, William Bernard and Genevieve Lee of Brown County; brother, William B. “Bub” Lee Jr.; mother-in-law, Donella Gilstrap; and brother-in-law, Dean Wootton.

No formal services are planned, but a celebration of life will be conducted in David’s honor at a later date.

The family requests memorial gifts in David’s behalf be made to I.U. Bloomington Hospital Hospice Care.
