George E. Bassitt Sr., 86, of Hamilton, Ohio, passed away Monday, June 29, 2015, at Hospice of Hamilton.

He was born May 27, 1929, in Whitesville, West Virginia, son of the late Adeeb and Helen (McCallister) Bassitt. He married Nell Ruth McDowell on April 26, 1950.

George was a member of First United Methodist Church; Benjamin Franklin Lodge No. 719 F&AM; Scottish Rite; York Rite; and Eastern Star, Washington Chapter. He worked as a chemical operator for Fernald, retiring after 37 years of service.

George is survived by his wife of 65 years, Nell Ruth Bassitt; three children, Christy (Robert) Kirlin of Nashville, George (Marcy) Bassitt Jr. and Debi Bassitt; five grandchildren, Julie Bassitt, Chuck Kirlin, Amy (Tom) Freeman, Kelsey Edgecomb and Christopher Wynn; seven great-grandchildren; and many other family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and three siblings, Bill, Eddie and Margaret Bassitt.

Visitation with Masonic services was July 6 at Webb Noonan Kidd Funeral Home in Hamilton. A funeral ceremony was to be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 7, at the funeral home, 240 Ross Ave. in Hamilton, with Pastor Mark D. Finfrock officiating. Burial was to follow at Millville Cemetery, 2289 Millville Ave. in Hamilton.

Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the Shriners Hospital, 3229 Burnet Ave., Cincinnati, OH 45229.
